Convenience Fee? More like INCONVENIENCE Fee.

I just bought a slue of tickets for the spring concert season and I'm so pissed about these so-called "fees" that every single ticket vendor feels the need to tack on. I'm looking at you in particular, Smith'sTix.  Here's what it cost me for two tickets to Alexisonfire, which is supposedly a $13.00-per-ticket-show.

Let me repeat that small print for you.
$  1.00    Facility Fee
$  3.25    Order Processing Fee
$  2.50    Will Call Pick Up (Um, you're charging me for what exactly?  The cost to NOT mail me paper tickets?)
$  8.50    Convenience Fee
--------------------------------------------------------
Grand total:  $15.25 in FEES!!!!!!!!!!!

That is more than the "price" of a whole nother ticket.  Disgusting.  I would honestly rather see all that in the cost of the ticket, rather than THINKING I'm getting a good deal and then getting raped upon checkout.

The good news is that I now have 7 nights to look forward to:  Rx Bandits, RX Bandits again, Frightened Rabbit, Passion Pit, Say Anything, Alexisonfire and MUSE!

Peter Corroon by Mason Fetzer

Mayor Corroon is running for Governor!  The campaign asked Mason to paint an image of Peter, and the above was a result of an epic all-nighter.

Medium: house paint, acrylic and spray paint on wood with a custom wood frame
Dimensions: freakin' huge

I'll get some better pics up as I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of this paining before the election in November, but for now, I love the way my camera phone captured the artist and the subject.  This was taken at a St. Patty's Campaign Kickoff Party at The Depot.  The place was packed and the energy was high.  I have a feeling this will be an interesting gubernatorial election.

PS- I hate that word: GUBERNATORIAL

6 Wardrobe Changes?!?

I was the Emcee for my company's annual meeting again, and this year, because we were at the Bellagio, we saw a few luxurious improvements.  First, we had an actual STAGE....
 ...and second, I had my own dressing room...
To make use of the dressing room, we decided that I should pretend to be a host at the Grammy awards  that has multiple costume changes throughout the event.  As if packing for a 3-day business meeting wasn't hard enough,  I had to pack 6 outfits for ONE DAY alone!  That also meant that more shoes were needed:
Mason was our event photographer once again, and here are a couple of my favorite shots he snagged:

As for the wardrobe changes....the timing of each one was pretty stressful, and I worried that people didn't think the schtick was funny....but I think it turned out OK.  We ended up polling the audience to see what their favorite outfit was, and I would ask ya'll to answer the same question by voting in the poll below!

Here are your choices (the names of these outfits don't necessarily reflect the opinions of Lady Bombay, its management, or owners.....Kevin named them):

Ships Ahoy Carly

Puffy Shirt Carly (Seinfeld reference)

Psychedelic Carly

High School Dance Chaperon Carly

Paisley Hipster Carly

Vintage Vamp Carly

Ask Lady Bombay: Denim Leggings?

Question from a reader:
I need fashion assistance. What type of footwear works with skinny jeans (the denim leggings like you have) when my boots go back in the closet ? I don't want to see a photo of myself in the "What Not To Wear" magazine section.
Sent from my iPhone

I got a pair of denim leggings, these to be specific, for Christmas. I know that there are lots of mixed feelings out there in fashion land about leggings in general, and particularly jean leggings or "jeggings" (an abbrev. I'm not sure I can get behind).  My opinion is that as long as the First Commandment of Leggings is obeyed, jean leggings are totally permissible, comfortable, incognito (no visible zippers or pockets under dresses), utilitarian (so easy to tuck inside boots), and yes, even cute.  So, what, you ask, is the First Commandment of Leggings?
THOU SHALT COVERETH THY BUTT
 Dresses, tunics, cardigans, long under-tanks, etc.--all of these are acceptable butt-covering devices that should be employed by anyone rocking the regular or jean legging.  The Second Commandment of Leggings, jean and otherwise, involves footwear:

THOU SHALT NOT WEARETH HIGH HEELS WITH YOUR LEGGINGS UNLESS YOU ARE TRYING TO LOOK LIKE CYNDI LAUPER IN AN 80'S MUSIC VIDEO.
But now that we've got that necessary pretext out of the way, let's answer our dear e-mailer's question.

Regular old "skinny jeans" have myriad footwear options, but the denim leggings are a bit more limited.  We all know they go great with boots, helping rid women of the age-old "boot bulge" problem.
But without boots, you need to wear them like they are a pair of leggings, rather than of a pair of jeans.
The difference is the cuff on the bottom of the jean.  If it looks like a normal, thick, sturdy jean cuff, you are clear to wear basically anything from casual to formal:  high heels, super high platforms, ballet flats, gladiator-type flat sandals, strappy heels, "tennies" (as Grandma used to call them), etc.

However, if the cuff looks stretchy, elastic, and / or similar to the cuff on the bottom of your Sunday yoga pants, I don't think you can pull of heels or anything moderately formal--the look needs to stay casual.
Ballet flats, casual flat sandals and "tennies" could still work, but I think anything over an inch high is a no-no.

Response:
Thanks! That helps. It is my Spring dilemma.  I will be sending more queries since I don't want to dress like an old lady.

Sent from my iPhone

Oh come on, I don't think any email with the "Sent from my iPhone" tagline could possibly be from an "old lady," you are obviously fabulous and tragically hip.

Tardy Mardi Party 2010

Every year, the Utah Arts Festival throws a Mardi Gras fundraiser--The Tardy Mardi Party--a bit after the ACTUAL date (hence the "tardy").  I've attended the party for the last four years or so, but this was the best year yet, by far. A great addition was the photo booth, where guests could get an old-fashioned 4-photo strip, like the kind you used to get at K-Mart, but with an extra digital copy! I'm a sucker for these.
Another great aspect of the party was Mason's silent auction piece.  He donated this painting--"Knot Red"--hoping that it would get a few bids and raise some cash for the Festival.
It only got one bid, but one was all it needed--someone bought it for the high "buy it now" price before the party even opened to the public and gave others a chance to bid.  Woo hoo!
